Man, being in iPhone SDK Developer program is like having no sex after getting married. Whole fun is gone. Its like fight club. “Do not talk about iPhone SDK…”. Anyway, i installed 2.1 on my phone and i had several issues on my phone. I desperately wanted to get back to iPhone OS 2.0. I tried all possible ways and this worked.

CRASH THE PHONE. Try to restore the phone back to 2.1 and disconnect it at the middle of it. Now connect iTunes and get the recent 2.0 update automatically when you sync.

Easy !!!

Did it work for you? I tried so many times, I didn’t get anywhere.

  2. muthu Says:

It should work. Otherwise, when you are restoring any version. Plug the phone out of the sync at the middle. that crashes the phone and you can do any restore after that. Now, after 2.1 release, you can’t go back to any other version anyway.

    Windows XP:

    - Download iPhone OS 2.0 from somewhere
    - Try the above
    - When connecting to iTunes and before clicking on restore, please hold control or alt key
    - There will be a popup to choose the OS
    - Choose 2.0 and continue

    THIS REALLY WORKS:

    1. First you’ll want to make sure you’re running iTunes 7.5
    * If you have a newer version, go ahead and uninstall that version of iTunes
    * Download iTunes 7.5 (iTunes 8 works for me)
    * Install iTunes 7.5
    2. Download an older version of the iPhone OS to your desktop
    * If you’re downgrading from iPhone 2.1 OS, you’ll probably want to go with iPhone 2.0.2 OS
    * If you’re downgrading from iPhone OS 2.0.2/2.0.1/2.0.0, you’ll probably want to downgrade to iPhone OS 1.1.4
    * Find previous iPhone OS versions here.
    3. With the older version of iTunes installed, connect your iPhone or iPhone 3G to iTunes via the USB data cable
    4. Reboot your iPhone into DFU restore mode
    * Hold down the “Power” and “Home” buttons simultaneously until your iPhone turns off (ignore the “Slide to Power Off” prompt)
    * When your iPhone turns off, release the “Power” button but keep holding that “Home” button
    * Hold the “Home” button for a good 10 seconds
    * iTunes will recognize your iPhone in restore mode and prompt you to restore the iPhone before using it
    5. Force your iPhone or iPhone 3G to restore itself using the older iPhone OS that you downloaded previously
    * Mac - hold down the “Option” key as you mouse-click on “Restore” button in iTunes
    * PC - hold down the “Shift” key as you left-click on the “Restore” button in iTunes
    6. Select the older iPhone OS file that you downloaded to your desktop
    7. Enjoy your newly downgraded iPhone or iPhone 3G!
    * Ignore any 1011, 1013, 1015 errors
    * Errors like 1601, 1602, 1600 require that you put your iPhone into DFU restore mode again and force-restore again (start at Step 4)

That didn’t work for me it would go through the restore in normal time but would never take the phone back out of restore mode at the end so i had to just click it normally which obviously updated it to 2.1.

Oh well i will have to find another way to unlock the phone because i got a turbo sim but it only works with 2.0.2 and lower. Anyone else know unlocking method for 3g? (So any USIM can be used)

hello all, following what all of you have said, i found the best and quickest working way out of all the comments above.

i have the iphone 3g, was on 2.1 and itunes 8.0.1

simple go to task manager (windows of course) dont have a clue for MAC,
    and close ituneshelper.exe

put your phone in recovery mode, hold shift and click restore in itunes, and select te version you have downloaded that you wish to put on your iphone and away you go, no messing about like trying to crash it etc…..
